Screenagers: Castaic parents learn about the dangers of the digital age

Parents had a conversation about everything from their children’s screen-time habits to their own following a free showing of the documentary “Screenagers” at Castaic Middle School on Wednesday.

The screening, open to all Castaic Union School District parents, gave the audience a look into the damage that excessive smartphone, computer and internet use can have a growing child.

Castaic Elementary remembers 9/11

Staff and students at Castaic Elementary School donned their most patriotic red, white and blue attire for a Cub Rally on Wednesday in honor of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The school holds a cub rally once a month, and each is run by the students in a different grade level, according to Principal Allison West.

La Mesa Launches No-Phone Policy

Students are no longer allowed to use cellphones at La Mesa Junior High School, according to La Mesa Principal Michelle Krantz, who described the school’s new “no phone” policy at Wednesday night’s William S. Hart Union High School District board meeting.

Krantz said during the presentation that it is the first year the school has instituted the policy, after following in the example set by the Castaic Union School District.

Castaic Union School District ‘Welcome Wagon’ bus tours

Next week the Castaic Union School District Welcome Wagon will be touring the Castaic community to visit with students and their families.

Castaic principals, administrators and school board members will be in attendance at the various special events in order to get out in the neighborhoods and surprise kids with popsicles as the district prepares for the first day of school on Aug. 13.
