The Castaic Union School District recently announced the retirement of School Board Trustee Susan M. Christopher.

Castaic Union School District officials have named Kim Tredick the district’s new Director of Student Support Services, effective Nov. 1.

In an effort to educate the youth and mobilize communities in the fight against drugs and substance abuse, schools across the country participated in Red Ribbon Week — an alcohol, tobacco and drug prevention awareness campaign that’s annually observed in October.

The Board of Trustees at Castaic Union School District voted Tuesday to select John Richard to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Area D Trustee Susan Christopher.

A vacant seat on the Castaic Union School District’s governing board prompted district leaders to appoint local resident John Richard as a representative for the students, parents and stakeholders who live in the southeast side of the district.

Interviews were held Tuesday night at the district office where Superintendent Steve Doyle and governing board members attempted to decipher which of the two candidates was the more qualified to be appointed the new trustee of Area D, which will be left vacant by outgoing incumbent Susan Christopher after she chose not to file for re-election this upcoming November.

Throughout the country, the week of Oct. 22nd is Red Ribbon Week, meant to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. This year’s theme is “Life is your journey, travel drug-free”.

Castaic Middle School is having three major events that will engage the students in drug-free—with a focus on “vape-free”—activities in their lives.

Held at Golden Valley High School, exhibitors offered products and services for children in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Every dollar raised went directly to the Child & Family Center, which provides mental health and behavioral services to more than 700 local children each week.
