The Board of Trustees at Castaic Union School District Board unanimously approved the appointment of Allison West to become the new principal at Castaic Elementary School (CES).

“Our schools are equipped with 21st-century learning tools to prepare the leaders of tomorrow,” said Castaic Union School District Superintendent Steve Doyle. “Each school site has hard-working dedicated faculty and staff members that help our students reach his or her full potential in a safe and nurturing environment.”

A series have appointments and the school district’s move to trustee areas and a November election aligned terms so that four seats will be on the ballot — including one for a two-year term — and one incumbent has already made her intentions not to seek re-election known.

After decades of service to the Castaic Union School District and to education, Live Oak Elementary School Principal Cynthia Seamands plans to retire at the end of this school year.

During her career, the elementary school educator spent several years as a teacher and counselor before joining the Castaic district in 1990 as an at-risk counselor at several schools, including Live Oak Elementary.

Current Castaic Elementary School Principal Stephanie Beach will have a new role next year as the principal of Live Oak Elementary School, the Castaic Union School District announced Thursday.

The move is due to the upcoming retirement of current Live Oak Principal Cynthia Seamands, and will be effective July 1.

The survey results of Castaic Middle School indicate that all students are offered opportunities in music, theater, visual arts and media arts during the school day, with the most students participating in the arts in eighth grade.

“We have fine arts and practical arts at our middle school, which includes choir, band, guitar, CMS TV, arts history and Math and Arts exploratories,” Maxon said. “Our district follows the CA Arts standards.”

Paralympics snowboarding competitor and Santa Clarita Valley resident Mike Shea is headed to Korea, but will first talk about his journey with Northlake Hills Elementary School.

Santa Clarita Valley resident Mike Shea is headed back to the paralympics for the second time in search of the gold medal, and is scheduled to talk at a school assembly this week about his journey.

Following a recent threat made to a campus, Castaic Union School District staff and local Sheriff’s Station officials met at Castaic Elementary School Thursday to discuss campus safety and security measures.
